chi kung and tai chi
Chi kung is an ancient technique, developed in the monasteries
of China many years ago. It is an ancient Chinese health care system
that integrates physical posture, breathing techniques and focused
intention.
gi
(chi) means the life force or vital energy that flows through
all things in the universe.
gong (kung) means accomplishment, a skill that is cultivated
through steady practice.
Therefore chi-kung is a system practiced for health maintenance,
healing and increasing vitality. The gentle rhythmic movements of
chi kung help reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality and
enhance the immune system.
Tai chi is meditation in movement. It is based on movement
in nature, and of the animals, but its force is within each one
of us. Tai chi is based on slow circular movements and gentle breathing.
The sequences I teach are yang style, and are short, circular and
delicate forms, where the players learn the principles of tai chi:
relaxation, breathing and focused intention.
